The Dublin Tartan Army started in Prestwick Airport, Glasgow on the way to the Euro 2004 home qualifier match against Lithuania, 11 October 2003. A man named Mark met a man named Barry and they realised they were not alone in their quest to bring the mad Scottish football mentality to the Irish. The previously mentioned Barry met a man named Ian on the way home from the famous victory that took us to the play offs against Holland and more talk of a club fuelled by the victory and more beers.
Jumping forward to 19 November (a night that most of us would prefer to forget)... A man named Chris the Cobra slithered on to the scene and suddenly the Dublin Tartan Army was born.
The committee was formed and Ian was elected chairman (his late arrival in the middle of voting for the chairman wearing a shirt and tie sealed the vote).
